Purpose and Goals

Young children are social beings with a natural curiosity and eagerness for learning. They are unique individuals with their own joys and worries, experiences and capabilities. A kindergarten program should provide each child with the opportunity to grow as an individual, expand knowledge, develop skills, and experience success. The following goals are designed to fulfill this purpose:

1. Create an atmosphere in which children of all abilities find acceptance and the freedom to grow.

2. Provide experiences that expand the intellect while promoting a positive self-concept.

3. Provide an environment which accommodates all learning styles so that a child will develop to the best of his/her ability.

4. Offer opportunities to enjoy socialization and to develop social responsibility and self-discipline.

5. To help children develop appropriate readiness in specific skill areas – reading, math, and language arts.

6. To integrate activities across subject areas so children see the relevance of learning everyday life.

7. To develop awareness of the ways people interact with each other and with the natural environment.

8. To foster the development of physical skills.

9. To provide experiences for creative expression and exploration.

10. To stimulate curiosity and a desire to learn.

11. To provide experiences that will allow children to keep pace with advancement in technology.
